My Journey to Motherhood: From Expectation to Reality

Throughout my pregnancy, everything went swimmingly. Ultrasounds revealed a healthy baby, all tests were satisfactory, and my doctor, Dr. Raffat Bano at Aga Khan, was preparing me for a normal delivery.

However, our plans took an unexpected turn when my water bag suddenly burst.Within a short time frame, we arrived at the hospital, but the leakage had somehow subsided. My doctor patiently waited for natural labor pains to commence for two days, during which I received dexamethasone to aid my baby's lung development.

Unfortunately, there was no sign of progress. The water leakage intensified, threatening to cause an infection in my baby. At 6:00 AM, my husband, my doctor, and I made the difficult but necessary decision to proceed with a C-section.

Alhamdulillah, the operation was successful and
on November 6, 2023, at 9:41 AM I was blessed with a beautiful cute little girl. She was slightly underweight at 2.1 kg, and her skin exhibited a reddish discolouration due to the loss of amniotic fluid. Despite her initial challenges, she thrived, and by six months, all concerns had faded away.

Now, let's address the elephant in the room – the pain. During the operation, thanks to the epidural anesthesia, I felt nothing. However, the aftermath was a different story, the pain intensifies as the numbness gradually wears off.The period pain, stitches, and backache were excruciating. Despite the discomfort, I persevered, driven by the unconditional love for my daughter.

The journey to recovery was arduous. The first walk post C-section felt like an eternity, yet it was fueled by the strength bestowed upon mothers by the Almighty. I was allowed a light diet to minimise pressure on my stitches, and I could only take sips of water for the first day.

Reflecting on my experience, I realized that no amount of preparation can anticipate the twists and turns of childbirth. Whether through vaginal delivery or C-section, both paths are accompanied by their unique challenges. Ultimately, I learned to surrender to the divine plan and cherish every moment of motherhood.

To all expecting mothers out there, It's crucial to prioritize our health by following a nutritious diet and maintaining an active lifestyle and embrace the unknown with courage because every pain endured leads to a priceless reward – the gift of motherhood 🫶🏻❤️
